Butler, Wis. — Medical device manufacturer MRPC Corp., which works with silicone and plastics molding in its production of medical instruments and disposables, will add 2,200 square feet to its Largo, Fla., facility.

The expansion is part of the company's remodel of its Southeast Division, according to MRPC.

"We had been analyzing the manufacturing process at the Largo facility for several months, with the intention of a remodel," said Carl Lider, chief operating officer at MRPC. "This analysis enabled us to identify bottlenecks and determine ways to remove them, while optimizing the flow of the manufacturing area."

Using lean manufacturing principles, MRPC historically has looked to enhance operational flow through the manufacturing, molding and finished device processes, enabling faster time-to-market for customers.

In addition to the 2,200-square-foot expansion in Largo, the overall remodel also is set to include the purchase of new injection molding machines and further expansion of the finished medical device assembly process at the site.

Changes have been made to the structure of the facility, with the addition of a reflective roof, LED lighting, hurricane-proof windows and added insulation.

"Ultimately, we believe the enhancements that were made to the Largo facility will be a benefit to our clients, as well as our employees and prospective employees," Lider said. "The work space has been upgraded, the security of the building has increased, and we've created the space to add new employees."

With its headquarters in Wisconsin, MRPC also runs a manufacturing facility in Hudson, N.H.
